The myID Risk Level is an assessment provided by myID that measures your risk of identity theft.
The Risk Level is calculated by analyzing billions of elements across a real-time network of financial and identity events. Your Risk Level can signal whether your personal identifying information is at risk of being used fraudulently to obtain assets, goods or services in your name or using your Social Security number.
myID monitors hundreds of variables related to your identity across a vast network of financial and identity event transactions. Variables monitored unique to you include your name, address, home phone, email address, and Social Security number.
Yes, to verify your identity and actively monitor for new account activity connected to your Social Security number and credit report, we require your Social Security number.
To ensure your security, we do not store the full sequence of your Social Security number on our servers, and securely encrypt the information you enter onto this website using SSL security.
myID uses a real–time identity network that monitors billions of instances of identity transactions. An identity transaction includes financial events such as the opening of new credit accounts that use basic identity elements such as name, Social Security number, phone number, date of birth, and address. Information obtained from the network is used only for the purpose of assessing and managing identity risk and is never sold or given to third parties.
Your myID Risk Level is affected by hundreds of different variables within our analytical model. Our model identifies suspicious or unusual relationships among billions of instances of the use of basic identity elements (e.g. name, Social Security number, phone number, date of birth, and address) within the myID Network. Certain events and patterns can lead to a high level, such as a fraudulent application linked to your phone number or an abnormal amount of applications originating from your address. On the other hand, positive events and patterns can lead to a low risk level. For example, if your identity elements have not been associated with any suspicious activity, your Risk level may be low.
Moving to a new home or having multiple address changes within a short period of time can cause your level to rise. Multiple addresses tied to the same name or Social Security number is often a sign that identity theft has been committed, as identity thieves often use different addresses after committing new account fraud in the hopes of hiding the identity theft from their victims.
Having multiple names tied to the same Social Security number can cause your level to rise, even if the names are legitimate variations on your real name (for example, if you change your name after marriage, or shorten your name with an initial).
If several new credit accounts such as credit cards, bank loans, or wireless or utility accounts are opened in your name, address or using your Social Security number in a relatively short period of time, your level may rise as a result of unusual ‘new account’ activity. This does not necessarily mean that your account activity is the result of identity theft or fraud; it does, however, signal an increased risk for identity theft.
myID is currently offered to residents of the United States only. We cannot calculate a myID Risk Level for residents of other countries or for an individual who has recently returned to the United States after living outside the United States for a prolonged period of time.
A myID Identity Risk Alert will be sent to a subscriber when their personal information (name, address, Social Security number, etc.) is used on a new application for credit or services. a myID Identity Risk Alert is also sent when there is an update to the myID Risk Level of the subscriber.

If you did not authorize the application, myID works directly with the lenders and creditors involved to help minimize financial damage.
The technology behind myID is the same technology used by leading banks, retailers, telecommunication providers, and governmental agencies to protect the identities of their customers and employees.
All myID Identity Alerts are sent via email and/or SMS text to your mobile device.
Although you may not recognize the name of the company in your myID Identity Risk Alert, this doesn’t mean you are necessarily a victim of identity fraud. The name of the entity that processes a new application is sometimes different than the name of the merchant where an application was opened. Your financial alert will also include the date of the event, the industry type (wireless, credit card, auto loan, etc) as well as the event type (a new application for example). This additional information can help you determine if you initiated the application.
No system can detect 100% of the activity associated with an individual’s personal information. myID is a proactive service that should be a critical part of your overall identity protection plan. However, myID does not detect all types of fraud such as medical identity theft, direct deposit account theft, employment–related theft, or falsification of a user’s identity documents. However, if a new account was opened in your name and you did not authorize it, myID provides experienced fraud resolution professionals to assist in shutting down the application.
